What is a
Registered Dietitian?
When you choose a registered dietetics professional to help
with your nutrition or food preparation and service needs,
you're connecting with an individual with demonstrated
professional expertise and excellence. Dietetics professionals
undergo rigorous academic training and extensive practice
experience and maintain their state-of-the-art food and
nutrition knowledge by completing ongoing professional
education programs.

Registered Dietitians have completed academic and
experience requirements established by the Commission on
Dietetic Registration, ADA's credentialing agency, including a
minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university and an accredited preprofessional experience
program. Some RDs hold additional certifications in specialized
areas of practice.

RDs demonstrate thorough knowledge of their fields by
passing a national exam administered by the Commission on
Dietetic Registration. Both are required to stay on the cutting
edge of their fields by regularly completing continuing
professional education to maintain registration.
